I'm just a evil, evil little thing who finds his death hilarious.
Well, I don't find watching his "deaths" after Rose's having resurrected him as painful as watching him get killed by the Daleks in "The Parting of the Ways". I think it's less that he was really dead until Rose went all Deus Ex Machina Wonder Companion and resurrected him, more that he faced that death believing it was for keeps. All the times we've seen him get killed since then he's pretty much known it wasn't going to stick. He might have got his hope up with Cyber Woman or Abaddon, but deep down he knew.
